오늘날 우리 사회는 4차 산업혁명 시대로의 급변, 예측 불가능한 미래 직업 세계의 도래, 그리고 다문화 사회로의 심화 등 전례 없는 변화의 물결을 맞이하고 있습니다. 이러한 환경 속에서 아동·청소년들은 단순히 지식 습득을 넘어 복잡한 사회 문제를 해결하고, 빠르게 변화하는 환경에 적응하며, 건강한 정체성을 확립해야 하는 새로운 도전에 직면하고 있습니다. 특히, 다문화 가정의 아동·청소년들은 언어, 문화, 정체성, 진로 등 여러 면에서 이중적 어려움을 겪으며, 이들을 위한 심리사회적, 교육적 지원의 필요성이 더욱 커지고 있습니다. 기존의 교육 시스템은 이러한 개인의 복합적인 발달 과정과 사회 적응의 어려움을 전인적으로 아우르기에는 여전히 한계를 보이고 있습니다. 이론 중심의 학술 연구는 현장의 구체적인 요구를 충족시키지 못하거나, 개발된 프로그램이 실제 교육 현장에 효과적으로 적용되기 어려운 괴리가 존재하고 있습니다. 또한, 획일적인 교육 방식으로는 다변화된 아동·청소년 개개인의 고유한 특성과 잠재력을 충분히 발현시키기 어렵다는 지적이 계속되고 있습니다.

이러한 교육 환경의 변화와 기존 시스템의 한계 속에서, 아이엠교육연구소의 설립은 필수적이며, 그 차별적 가치는 명확합니다. 아이엠(IAM)교육연구소는 공학적 통찰력으로 문제를 분석하고 해결하며, 아동청소년교육학 전문성으로 인간에 대한 깊은 이해를 더하는 '융합적 사고'를 바탕으로 합니다. 이는 곧 연구소가 지향하는 "모든 아동·청소년이 자신의 잠재력을 발견하고, 건강한 사회 구성원으로 성장하여 미래를 주도하는 행복한 삶을 누리도록 돕겠다"는 비전을 현실화하는 핵심 동력이 될 것입니다.

Today, our society is confronting an unprecedented wave of change, including a rapid shift toward the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the advent of an unpredictable future job market, and the deepening of a multicultural society. In this environment, children and adolescents are faced with new challenges that go beyond simple knowledge acquisition; they must solve complex social problems, adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, and establish a healthy identity. 

Multicultural children and adolescents, in particular, face dual difficulties in various aspects such as language, culture, identity, and career paths, which makes the need for psychosocial and educational support for them even more critical. Existing educational systems still have limitations in holistically addressing the complex developmental processes and social adaptation challenges of these individuals. A gap exists where academic, theory-focused research often fails to meet the specific demands of the field, and developed programs struggle to be effectively applied in real-world educational settings. Furthermore, there is a continuous critique that standardized educational methods make it difficult for each diverse child and adolescent to fully realize their unique characteristics and potential.

Amid these shifts in the educational landscape and the limitations of existing systems, the establishment of the IAM Education Research Institute is not only essential but its distinctive value is also clear. The IAM Education Research Institute is founded on 'convergent thinking', which analyzes and solves problems with engineering insight while incorporating a deep understanding of people through expertise in child and adolescent education. This approach will be the core driving force for realizing the institute's vision: "To help all children and adolescents discover their potential, grow into healthy members of society, and lead happy lives that shape the future."
